Afro Isn’t A Dirty Word
🛑STOP USING AFRO AS A DEROGATORY TERM ✋🏽
Your hair isn’t “an afro” if it’s frizzy.
If you get a bad haircut your hair won’t magically turn into “an Afro.”
An Afro is a hairstyle, worn predominantly by Black people, in which naturally kinky or tightly curled hair is styled in a rounded shape. ⭕️
It is not a word for you to choose to speak negatively about your hair while also disrespecting an entire culture and race.
If you need a word for your hair when it’s in a not so pretty place I’ve dropped below a few:
👿 FRIZZY
👿 DISHEVELED
👿 UNRULY
👿 WILD
👿 UNKEMPT
👿 WINDBLOWN
👿 TOUSLED
People of the global majority come in all different shapes, colors and textures and so do their curls.
It’s time we respect the crowns we all wear and one another.
Black people are STILL being penalized every day for wearing their hair in whatever form they choose and we need to do better by realizing the racial prejudices we carry with us and in our words.
